I’m retired military so I think I’m ok but I don’t like gov taking over 1\6 of US economy. Ex Order re abortion won’t last long! Let’s repeal Health Care!

What happened to the states and their intention to sue. This bill should never have been implemented until this was settled in court. It still remains an unconstitutional act of a few idiots and should never go forward.

I do agree we need reform but NOT Obama/Pelosi/Reed stuipdity. And to think they reveled in the process.

  • Anton said:

How is it affecting me and my family (growing by 1 next month)? Well, I will be paying over 2000 more a year, have even poorer health care than I do now, and if the system wasn’t convoluted enough, there will be even more clueless people in the mix known as “my health and well being.”

  • Bill said:

There is nothing in the constitution that allows the govt to force the people to have health care. We have a president who is not a true American. He does not honor our flag, never puts his hand over his heart during the playing of the national anthem. The healh care isssue should have been put on a ballot allowing the people to vote yes or no. I will just bet there would have been 75% NO’s on a Govt run health care system. I am proud to say I did not vote for Obama.

  • Pam said:

Health care reform should start at the Health care BILLING. I received a $100,000 hospital bill, but “because I had insurance”, the hospital deducted $65,000 off the bill and only billed my insurance for $35,000. If the hospital can afford to do that, then why not charge someone WITHOUT insurance $35,000 for the same care? And why blame my insurance company for what the hospital overcharges everyone?

When Pres. Obama came to my state to “defend” the health care package, there was a picture of him in a classic pose — waving to the crowd and his hand was not open, but in a loose fist with the thumb pointing down and he was smiling…I didn’t vote for him, I am going to work to get my rep who backed this crazy plan out of another term… WAKE UP AMERICA — Uncle Sam needs us to let the gov’t know WE Don’t like their controlling 1/6th of the economy

Since the end of the 70s the working-class people of this country have been under attack from corporations. It doesn’t seem to matter which group is in the White House or who controls the Senate and the House. It’s obvious to me they are catering towards big business and short term profits. The press that is supposed to be our protection against this kind of take over has also been bought and paid for by corporations. The press spreads propaganda and changes the meanings of words and confuses people by saying it over and over. I don’t like the current health care bill I wanted more I was hoping for single-payer healthcare or Medicare for everyone. It’s obvious socialized medicine is okay for retired military people but it’s not okay for the rest of us. Educate yourself people, ask your representative’s what the last thing they did to help working class families?

Health Care Insurance renewal bill arrived TODAY! – 22% INCREASE to employer and 47% INCREASE to employee-paid dependent coverage! AND we have a consumer drived high-deductible health plan with Health Savings Accounts. Someone should explain to Obama that the hatred the Left holds for the pharmaceutical & insurance companies is going to take our country down the tubes! ATTENTION GOVERNMENT: STEP AWAY FROM THE HEALTH CARE INDUSTRY!

  • Jon said:

Dave— did you miss the entire course on government…YOU are the single payor. If we had medical accounts and dealt with the doctor of our choice, we could shop around for any doctor we wanted. Naturally you may not like this…it leaves us with OUR freedom to choose. Dave, it’s a little like buying auto insurance…we get to choose how much we pay and to which company. Competition is the name of the game.

If you sincerely wanted more government control, maybe you could try Cuba. They need ‘bright’ minds there and do everything to encourage them.

I would be strongly opposing the quotes by Democrats in this website and standing strong against their veiws , and republicans need to stand up and be out spoken on this because these democrats are on the record here with these words and if republicans want to win then stand up and make the case against this take over with Health care and Cap and Trade because the policies are all about population Control through the control these policies give over resource usage and how democrats want to dictate through higher taxation that will drive up prices and price people out of a abundance in access to life giving quality resources .
Read the quotes here and tell me this is not whats the health care and cap and trade bills are all about , which is more and more government control over resources and the dictation of use over the resources ?

Rick, I also am retired military and the Democrats hate the military, they were tryingto jack Tricare so far up our backs. In case you didn’t notice that half a trillion dollar cut to Medicare was also including Tricare. So far we look ok, but you have to watch and always remember the Democrats hate us, and are only looking out for the welfare people, so watch your back!

Well, Rob you won’t like this. I am a conservative with no health insurance since 2002. It’s not because I don’t want it or pay for it. I simply can’t afford it. The employer does not carry any either. So there. There are many people brain washed by propaganda in this country. That Western European countries and Canada, who more or less solved this problem, are socialist; that their health care doesn’t work; that hordes of Canadians, French, Germans, Brits, etc. are inundating our clinics because they can’t get what they want in their countries (where are those hordes? I lived in Cleveland and Rochester and haven’t seen them, except for the Saudi King’s fleet). I have friends in Toronto who are asking me about the silly phrases uttered every day about the Canadian health care system. The gentlemen who spread this don’t know the difference between socialism and communism and most of our public doesn’t know either. They haven’t lived in communism. They don’t know anything in practice about the nightmarish Stalinist regimes in Albania or Romania. That was communism, not socialism. You’re confused. Some governments in Western Europe are social democratic. That means they are thoroughly capitalistic, governed by social democrats. But social democrats are capitalists with social conscience. Would you call Otto von Bismarck a socialist teuton Junker in 1880? Would you want a more capitalistic country than Switzerland? I don’t know about any. In Switzerland the situation was the same as it is now in the US. Big insurance and Farma were raising prices at will. People were denied helthcare and permanently dealt larger and larger co-payments, at will as well. Then, the Health ministry got to work. They wrote up a plan. Parliament got to work as well. Lobbyists were swarming Parliament. The media was innundated with hostile and frightening advertisment. Vested interest groups threatened with leagal action (sounds familiare, doesn’t it). However people wanted change. In a country that is famous for self interest, people got over their petty outlook and told their representatives to vote for change.

Change came, all right. Insurance companies lost their for profit health insurance privileges. People were so furious with them that their reps HAD to vote for new health care legislation. Yes, healthcare has to be paid for. But if an advanced nation cannot set up a pool of money to provide health care for its citizens, what are the advancements for? Yes, tort reform must be instituted, and I am not advocating purging insurance companies from insuring peopole’s health care. I am only calling for a more equitable system.

In this country many people just don’t care. Oh, they give to charity all right, thinking that with that they’ll have their way to heaven. Throwing money at a problem doesn’t always solve it. Change, not any kind of cosmetic change, does, at list in part. How big that part is depends on how serious the legislatures want genuine change. Rugged individualism doesn’t mean that those who don’t have enough money to pay upfront are relegated to die in a ditch. Self interest doesn’t mean “I couldn’t care less about my fellow man”. The Constitution?Yeah, in the Constitution there is nothing written about health care. But the Constitution does not say people should not have health care either. And the Constitution does not talk about callous individualism either.

Many people who have no choice will have to retire early to get social security and medicare because they cannot find a job. This is a very stupid setup. It doesn’t make any economic sense. They’ll start to use the collective safety pool in stead of producing. What senseless state of affaires.

You’re going to jump on me. So what? A choir that can’t say anything original, but faithfully repeat what was heard from others who frighten everyone out of their wits. But how many of you have read the bill? Curiously, last summer some in Congress trumpeted they cannot vote for a 1000 page bill. Miraculously, by September it was 1600, in February it swell to 2100 and in March it already was at 2500, according to the same people. In politics people can say whatever they want, counting on the fickleness and forgetfulness of the electorate. Of course, people forget what’s convenient to forget. Well, I don’t forget.

My company — a Fortine 500 company, not a mom-and-pop — notified employees that they will not longer share payment on the higher-priced insurance that we’ve had for 10 years. If we want the company to share any cost, we have to choose a lower cost insurance option. This means I have to bear more of the monthly cost, and I have to pay a higher deductible before the coverage begins.

I work in NYC for a real estate broker and was lucky enough to get it written into my contract that I got my health benefits paid for. Under this new bill, if I’m reading the summaries correctly, this is how the bill can and will affect me:

*After 2014, what I pay to have UTIs and other kidney-related ailments treated may be covered more by my insurance carrier because I was born with a congenital kidney defect.
*Because my boss has exactly one employee (me), the government will pay up to 50% of my premium in tax credits.
*After 2018, I will be more likely to get an annual physical and my pap smears done because I won’t have to pay a co-pay.

In other words, what’s not there for me and/or my Republican employer to like?

Lets look at the whole time period of the last Free Trade agreement and how it has evolved in terms of the total debt in the USA , And consider this very simple analogy of our current economic solvency question , ” Are we Better Off now even with the idea of a Cheaper Source of Supply of Durable goods from Asia ? do we still have our jobs that afforded our communities a way of life that could create health care and security retirements like Medicare and Social Security from a wage deduction ?

Consider this , what if the USA would have kept its small retail and wholesale sectors in tact , before the Strip mall and Box Box retail chains evolved ( FTC where was the regulation on consolidation of the market ? oh it was a international percentage rating system that kept the market looking as if it was not consolidating , right ? what a bunch a BS , because it did not work for the wealth redistribution method did it ? ) , and that wiped out the mom and pop retail whole sale sectors that created the ” Best ” forms of Wealth Redistributions in America, that Trickled down through the Communities better with ” Less” chances of wealth Consolidation that at this time in history with the Big Box retail sector and Banking sectors in bed with these industries has lead to the biggest Bailout of the Financial sector from this wealth consolidation period ever in the History of the World , not just USA ???? Don’t you think we as a nation would have been better off if we would have kept our Small Business Mom and Pop sector alive and in stead of letting it be consolidated into the Big Box retail sector , what if Wall Street would have created a way to ” Pool ” the Mom and Pop retail sector together into ETF funds that the investor would choose a group or revolving groups of Small Retail retailers to be invested in and this be what would have transpired over the past 15 years of Free Trade , that would have kept the ” Risk ” spread out , lowing the chance of full scale consolidation which led to a seizing and hoarding and collapse of capital flows , by letting merger after merger of the retail sector , that has led us to this point in economic consolidation of the wealth thats now opened the door to Marxists revolts that has elected the leadership and now is leading the revolt to end the wealth consolidation phase in our country ?? But wait one Minute , ask yourself , once you read all the links below , might this have been planned , to bring the people under control for the sake of all mankind as the Club of Rome is Quoted in this link as saying that you and me , we are the Enemy ; our President should be asked if He agrees with the Mission statement by Club of Rome here http://www.green-agenda.com/

tell me that this health care bill is not restricting quality of care and with it the longevity of a elderly persons life ???????

How will patients—particularly senior citizens—feel when their doctors and even hospitals tell them, “Sorry, but we’re only taking on non-Medicare patients who pay privately, in full”?

How can President Obama claim that insurance premiums will go down when the very same nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office he quotes, selectively, has said that Obamacare will cause the average family’s premiums to go up by as much as 13 percent by 2016?

Why does Obamacare exempt some in Congress and the White House from having to buy the same health care plans that the law forces other Americans to purchase: President Obama, Vice President Biden, Cabinet members, top White House staff, congressional committee staff and leadership staff, such as those who work for House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.)?

. Remember the “jobs saved or created” canard regarding Obama’s economic stimulus?

The president is repeating that fantasy by applying it to Obamacare. However, the nonpartisan Lewin Group estimates that as many as 600,000 people will lose their jobs due to the onerous new employer health care mandates in Obamacare.

This bill is the best thing that has happened to the US in ages. Another one will probably follow in 10 years, because this will not be perfect, but it takes us in the right direction. Kudos to the politicians that did the right thing for the country, despite all the fear mongering.

  • Eric said:

Rick (comment #1) “I’m retired military so I think I’m ok” – I’m glad you’re ok, and I’m glad that you’re in a position where the government (I assume) helps make sure that you have adequate access to health care. Why do you want to repeal a law which extends some of those same protections to other US citizens?

I’m not even talking about any “handouts” here, I’m talking about things like 20-somethings able to buy in to their parents’ insurance plan, or kids with preexisting conditions able to buy insurance … I can’t get behind a repeal of that.

  • tony said:

Eric all of what you and Nicolae as reasons why you support this health care does not give reason to the Mandate that gives the Government the force to demand payment from you for a product that they get to control its quality of care as well which we only know that even though the Doctor and yourselves might have the right to decide on a prescription , if the Government controls the funding for such requirements , and can’t fund the program with the abundance of funding that might be required for a full quality of care your illness might require , what then if the funds are deemed unavailable , and you still have to by law pay the Government mandated health care premium , thats the real issue here . If they can do this then how far will they tread on us to further a ideology at any time in the future ????

  • Eric said:

Tony, I’m sorry, that first sentence had 132 words and honestly, I couldn’t follow it very well, but I got the gist of it.

It’s my understanding that he individual mandate was suggested by conservatives such as George H. W. Bush in the past; it’s needed to expand the risk pool so that existing conditions can be covered as well.

Governments require people to buy private automobile insurance today, but nobody’s talking about legal challenges there. (Ok, it’s slightly different because you don’t -have- to drrive a car). The government does not “control the quality” of that auto insurance, anymore than it will “control the quality” of the health care that my private insurance pays for.

I pay my insurer, they pay my doctor, same as it ever was, except now it’s harder for them to treat me unfairly. In short, I’m not worried, and I’m glad that if I get sicker, I can’t be dropped if I start looking “too expensive” to my insurer.

  • tony said:

Eric the problem is trusting Government is as big a risk factor as trusting big business , they both suffer from Greed and Corruption when they control powerful leveraged points over the lives of individuals , and when coupled with elements of ideologies that have certain visions for policies , you fall through the cracks of accessing your benefits plan you are so sure Government or private sectors will be able to provide as Big Corporate entities .
And when a Small Business sector made up of Mom and Pop retailer wholesaler , producer sized operations , dealing with price increases in Resource /Raw material supply or what they call Commodities , and the durable wealth creation is spread out throughout our communities , the ability to rapidly spread price increase out through small business in the form of wage increases that can counter inflation in cost of living is what worked very well back 30-40 years ago when the Mom and Pop retail small business sector was the backbone of the retail sector , not this Strip mall Big Box retail cabal that developed under the Free Trade policy we been living with . This is what consolidated the wealth of our communities and with it our economy , all because of Government Policies that ideologues crafted to bring us into Government control because of a worry about Over Population that is the result of a prospering People . But the Developed nations are doing good with Sustainable Population growth as this Chart shows , so really the Free Thinking innovative educated societies that are not under regime control show that best function for sustainable population growth , see here ; http://www.globalchange.umich.edu/globalchange2/current/lectures/human_pop/glofert.gif
You just can’t be thinking that the easy way is to just let the Government take care of you , because they are just a machine that runs off a set of commands that are not worried about innovating and expanding the field of enterprise that can take people to higher quality of life , wherever that might take you , they become just as complacent as the people do that are not self motivating regardless of incentive , and once the event of Government controls all innovation slows down and populations needs become squeezed , and eventually Governments that were so controlling over their societies became very harsh to their people because the supply shortage they actually created from their ideologies policies caused major suffering and revolt by the people , read your history . Today in the Third World we are seeing this play out because those people need and increase in education that can in turn give them the tolls of Innovation to realize how they can provide sustainable living standards and you know peace would be the result there .
All the past world wars were a result of less and less innovation the lack of supply of resources , more people doing nothing while waiting for government to supply needs and eventually the supply became limited and the struggle of famine and disease forced the government to act in the harsh manner in which they did . Innovation by way of the masses putting more and more freedom into free thinking individuals to innovate progress advancing human needs and interests is the only way to provide abundance that in turn creates peaceful people .

I don’t know how old you are now but have you thought of what will happen when you are a senior citizen, possibly with a chronic medical condition (they can pop up at any time) and your health care will be rationed.
Trust me, just because you’re over 65 doesn’t mean you’re ready for the grave. And what about future generations, your children, grandchildren and down the line?? Don’t you want better for them?

This healthcare law is a nightmare and it is only the tip of the iceberg. Wait until we have Obamnesty and you are standing in line behind all of the illegals.

Karen, illegal immigrants are not covered by the bill. Illegal immigrants will not be allowed to buy health insurance in the exchanges — even if they pay completely with their own money.

When I’m over 65 I’ll probably have saved for my retirement, and will continue to have private insurance. I believe in personal responsibility and all that. It’ll be a private transaction between me, my insurer, and my caregivers. There’s no rationing involved.

If I’m completely unprepared for retirement and have to depend on government handouts from medicare then we’ll see what shape it’s in by then. But I get confused, less medicare == less government involved in health care == good thing, I thought. Right?

  • tony said:

Eric if you want sustainable health care as well as a sustainable earth that we the people make work for all things living including people too , you need to be focused on electing politicians that are Pro Small Business policy orientated , and this allow a greater wealth redistribution method of economic function from the production and distribution of durable human needs as the foundation of providing your needs as with everyone in society . Mom and Pop retail , wholesale, and durable productions , raw material producers etc etc , is the path towards freedom , and sustainable life , not being dependent on ideologues like this guy here thats internationally strung out on the short-sighted vision that people are not as important as earth .

My personal issue is this is a grab for Medicare money. I contributed for all the years it has been in existance but now it will be put into a pot for everyone. This will undoubtable include those that support the current administration even if they are not US Citizens. The second part of the double whammy is that the Unions will now control your healthcare. This is a huge payback to the Unions that contribute millions to keep Democrats in power. Organized labor has never benefitted an industry. It drove private jobs overseas, decimated the manufacturing sector of our nation. Their safe jobs are government (education, Local, state, federal, infrastructure (police and fire), TSA, etc. jobs which can’t be sent overseas. National Health care workers Unions would be a huge increase in membership. We will all be forced into a Union where control of our dues will payoff the very politicians that redistributed our life savings. I predict that the prisons in our future will be filled with Political prisoners (people brave enough to speak out against anti-americans like Obama, Pelosi and Hyde). The current felons (who will be re-enfranchised provided they cast their vote under supervision) will be given freedom or less punishment. There is nothing below that this administration and congress won’t do to stay in power. I predict that Obama will try to stay in power somehow after the end of his second term. We must stop this destruction of our country somehow. Eliminate the stupid term RINO because of the abortion issue. This is minor. All Republicans have to stick together and appeal to Independents if we are going to take back our country. Look at the Senatorial Primary Race in Arizona! The Republican right is trying to unseat McCain !!!! We should be trying to unseat Pelosi. We are defeating ourselves. If Ron Paul’s troops and pundits like Rush, etc. would have supported McCain strongly, we would have won more States and not be in this mess. Thanks Ron Paul for giving us Obama, enjoy your smugness (aka stupidity).

What planet is Eric on? I won an argument with an AP reporter in California when he tried to claim Illegal immigrants couldn’t vote. In LA, ACORN signs them up, once their registered, you can’t and won’t successfully challenge them in a precinct that’s almost all Democrat. All it takes for an illegal immigrant to get this healthcare is a signature. In this country Illegal means a wink and a pass (you can’t even arrest them without the press jumping on your reputation). I have a French-Canadian house cleaner who is not a citizen and was voting for years based on her residency (driver’s license). She only stopped when she read that she couldn’t. Naturally she had been voting Republican (i.e. she had a conscience).

I’m doing GREAT!! I am a retired California Highway Patrol sergeant. Democrats gave me a nice retirement and excellent benefits. Of course I actually had to put my rear end on the line everyday for 26 years. Oh yea, and I got my hiney kicked and a few car wrecks totally jacked up my neck so I needed surgery on my neck and my spine looks like a crooked country road. I guess the downside would be when the GOP governor reformed workers comp to the point that I had to hire a lawyer just to get treated. And the GOP rails against the type of healthcare we are going to have. If it was left to the GOP, I would not have had surgery, we would still be arguing over whether I was really hurt at work (keep in mind every injury was documented when it occured, not later. The MRI and Catscans are pretty compelling evidence, none of that phantom back pain here, you can see mine). So yea, I’m doing great. 26 years of protecting my fellow citizens and the governor wanted to take my workers comp away. While I lean heavily to the right on most issues, I gotta be honest, if the NRC keeps doing stupid stuff, and Ms. Palin keeps getting embraced as some kind of saviour, God help us all. I like the ‘vote em all out’ movement (sorry Tea Party, you don’t even have the guts to call yourselves what you are, Replubicans). So no Republicans, no Democrats, we just need good ole Patriots, real Americans, people who can agree to disagree but still find common ground to work. No name calling, no baiting, just good ole roll up your sleeves and get it done. Oh wait, it’s much easier to name call then come up with constructive ideas. Both sides are guilty, eually guilty. Shame on all of em. I did not risk my life every day for this kind of BS. It’s disgusting. Oh yes, have a nice day.

All the idiots who listen to common-taters like Rush and Glenn don’t seem to get the fact that we already have socialism under Republicans – corporate socialism. Time for some of my tax dollars to take care of ME.

Businesses will be charging more because the taxes for them to cover pensioners/retirees went up. White women using tanning salons have to pay 10% more….very racial there. Uninsured people who before were happy not being insured because they were age 18-30 now have to pay to be insured and cover the healthcare for those who do not prioritize their healthcare issues. Tort reform is off the table, so doctors will be serving those who feel entitled to healthcare and then practicing defensive medicine because those folks will just due them when the slightest thing occurs….someone has to pay is their mentality. Its just unAmerican to move in the way of Europe. We have such a short history and got to thh top being American oppurtunists and risktaking and prioritizing the best for our family and this legislation is just a chop of our limbs…the American spirit. All the leftists should have moved to Europe instead of rally up a cry here for the same sort of welfare state.
